There are three types of rough terrain forklifts: vertical mast, variable reach, and rotating telehandler.

Vertical Mast

The most common build for a rough terrain forklift is the vertical mast. They are often used for picking up and placing construction materials on job sites. Generally, there are two types of masts available: three stage or two stage. A three-stage mast is made up of three rails that extend to the full height and two-stage masts are made up of two rails and present fewer obstructions to the operator’s view.

Variable Reach

The variable reach configuration of a rough terrain forklift can lift materials and move them over and between objects. It is built with a long wheelbase and low center of gravity to enhance the machine’s stability. Because of this, it has the ability to maneuver the easiest through crowded or low clearance areas.

Rotating Telehandler

Rotating telehandler forklifts are versatile. It is a telescopic forklift that can lift loads and extend or retract its telescopic arms to adjust its maximum reach and lift height. Rotating telehandlers have safety stabilizers to keep the lift level during use.
